Do you think language unifies or divides us?

   I think a language unifies us.  I think  if you with group of people and you know their language even if you don't know that much they know, but you still  have some words you can communicate with them .Therefore, you will not feel lonely.
   My point, we are human we can not live without communicate with each other  . on the other hand,  the language unites us in different level. For example, when I am with my family or  meet  friends from my  country, I can express my feeling smoothly.However, I talk with my classmates who are from a different countries,and
 we all speak English as a second language .Although it is our second  language, it gives us space to get acquainted and creating friendship. Therefor,language is a tool to help us understand each other and be one unit and express who we are.Learning the language of others is the bridge that brings us to them.Example from The New World Reader"The idea that language is the key to our identity and our perception of the world is not new".

MY IMMIGRATION EXPERIENCE

    I came to America as result of the civil war in my country, Somalia , and I'm lucky to be here.I have been in America for  five years, but my first year was the most challenging year to me especially the language. I was frustrated because I didn't know English. i didn't know how to communicate with other people .In my opinion the language is important for any  new immigrant because it will help her or him  in their new life.For example ,when I went to the hospital , I must have a translator to tell the doctor what I feel.That was irritating me because that made me to feel like I tell my problem to strange . According to  that  I started to learn English, and keep my privacy between me and my doctor.
     I  also got a shock culture when I saw some  women's and girls part of their  breasts can be watched by any one.Although I knew they didn't wear Islamic dress,but I did not think I will see their private part of their bodies in a street.That was really shocking me.Now I  accomplished a lot in my life .I went to  school and  finished high school, and now I have attended college since January 2011.I am taking  reading 52 ,and it  made me think deeply and without taking the things superficially . Now I have knowledge about globalization and plastic  pollution .I thank my teacher Alicia  to drive me to be thinker person.
